Congratulations to Ms. Kulczycki’s 5th grade self-contained class for presenting a fabulous Mock Trial based upon the Global Read Aloud book, The Jumbies. After reading the book, the students felt that they could build a compelling case pitting the Jumbies against the humans. The students created the trial based upon the characters and situations in the book, writing all of the lines for the attorneys, judge, bailiff, and witnesses for the defense and prosecution, and created their own costumes. Because each side wrote their own lines, the witnesses were only prepared for the questions that their sides wrote, and were often surprised by the questions asked by the opposition.
In true Project Based Learning protocol, the students performed their trial once for teachers and administrators in the building, reflected upon and revised the original arguments and witness statements, and performed it again, this time for an authentic audience! The children were honored to perform their Mock Trial for Judge Bob Batchelor, Prosecutor Jason Given, and Bailiff Jim Priest as well as teachers, administrators and members of the media, most of whom formed the jury! Much to their delight, the students were complimented on the quality of their work and their realistic portrayal of a trial. Ms. Kulczycki’s class learned how one becomes a Bailiff, Prosecutor and Judge, and were so grateful to have had their work reviewed by professionals. Thank you so much to Ms. Kulczycki for fostering students’ ownership of their learning and for providing such an amazing opportunity for her students!

Good evening. This is Grant Fauver, Director of Operations and Engagement at Coshocton City Schools, and this message is for all parents of all CCS students.
Last Friday, February the 25th, the CDC announced that masks are no longer required to be worn on buses or vans operated by public schools. The CDC is making this change to align with guidance that no longer recommends universal indoor mask wearing in K-12 and early education settings in areas with a low or medium Covid 19 level.
Wearing a mask is still allowable and optional for each child, but again, effective immediately they are no longer required by the CDC when being transported by schools. Our bus drivers will still have masks available upon request.
Please feel free to contact us with any questions. Thank you and have a good evening.
